Open until 0900 on 6 January 2026, the Scottish Arctic Travel and Partnerships fund supports travel to attend Arctic events (e.g. Arctic Frontiers, Arctic Science Summit Week), visit collaborators on Arctic research projects, and conduct fieldwork. The fund is supported by the Scottish Government’s Education Exchange programme (SEEP).
Applications must be from staff or students at ScAN member institutions. Applications are open to researchers at any career stage, but applications from ECRs are strongly encouraged.
Travel does not have to be to the Arctic, but the applicant must provide a clear rationale and link to Arctic partnerships, research or engagement. Travel must be between 1st January 2026 and 31st March 2026 in accordance with our external funding guidelines. It should be clear how your travel enhances Scottish-Arctic connections and raises the profile of Scottish-Arctic research internationally.
We will grant up to £500 for trips within Europe (excluding Greenland) and up to £1000 for trips outside Europe (including Greenland). We cannot fund travel within the UK.
Funds can be awarded for travel, accommodation, and subsistence only, not event registration fees.
Successful applicants are required to comply with their own institution’s travel policies and the budget guidance listed below, and will be required to write a blog for the ScAN website and newsletter after their trip.
The deadline for the second round of applications is 0900 on 6 January 2026. Applications will be assessed by a subcommittee of the ScAN Steering Group.
